Thoughts from New Orleans

Well the WWPC is over again for another year and I am left to digest the "mountains" of information thrown at us over the 4 days.
It was a good conference, not least because Calyx were awarded membership into the exclusive Presidents Club and the even more exclusive Inner Circle! This is great recognition for what was a great year for Calyx Software.
We have made PC regularly over the past 15 years but to make IC is a real achievement and one that puts us in the top 1% of global Dynamics partners.
I must now strat thinking about how we retain memberhip next year.............

Books for GP

Books for GP
I sometimes get asked about books that can help new and existing customers get up to speed with GP, and have found some great titles out there.
Accolade Publications has some good books including:-

• Dynamics GP for newbies
• Confessions of a GP consultant
• Version 10 unleashed
  

There is also one of the “dummmies” guides, Dynamics GP for Dummmies which are always helpful and a quick search on Amazon always brings up a few titles.
Then again if all you want is the standard manuals don't forget that they are all available electronically, or if you wish, you can always order hard copies from us. Speak to your Account Manager if you require these.

Go Green with Dynamics GP!

As you may be aware, environment accounting is one of the current hot topics globally. One of my contacts recently pointed me in the direction of this document on PartnerSource on Environmental Management Accounting Implementation Guidance for GP. It contains suggestions to help your company get started in using Dynamics GP to enable you to practise environmental management accounting.

There are a number of suggestions covering:

• Modify the chart of accounts
• Use Extender to track environment-related information
• The purchase costs of regulated raw materials
• Vendor costs for management/disposal of regulated wastes
• Track packaging materials and costs in the bill of materials
• Track water, fuel and electricity usage in the bill of materials
• Track waste outputs in the bill of materials
• Track environmental activities and costs via the project accounting module
• Improve allocation of environment-related costs
• Reporting

And my favourite is the use of Extender due to the flexibility it offers you can track what you want against whatever transaction you want.
If you don’t know about Extender yet and its capabilities then have a look as its a fabulous tool.

Microsoft Year End

As most of you will already know, we are nearing Microsoft's year end and they have introduced a number of interesting deals for existing Dynamics customers.

If you are interested in benefiting from BRL (Business Ready Licencing) now is the time to invest as there are some significant discounts available. Remember that BRL includes almost all of the available Dynamics GP modules, at no extra cost! Please contact your account manager for further details.

We are also offering reductions to your support and maintenance costs if you commit your support to Calyx for the next three years. I would hope that you would look to do this anyway, so the offer of a cost reduction should be a straightforward decision! Again, contact your account manager, if they have not already spoken to you about this.
